πŸ“ Overview

Location is at the heart of Taystify. It helps you discover nearby restaurants, tag your food experiences, and share your culinary adventures with context. We're transparent about how we use location data and give you full control.

Your location, your choice
Location permissions are always optional. You can use Taystify without sharing your location, though some features like nearby discovery and automatic restaurant tagging won't be available.

🎯 Why Taystify Uses Location

Location data powers many of Taystify's core features, making your food discovery experience seamless and contextual.

Location enables:

  • Discover nearby restaurants and food spots
  • Automatically tag restaurants when you post
  • See what others are eating around you
  • Get personalized recommendations based on your area
  • Map your food journey over time
  • Find trending spots in your city

⏰ When Location Is Collected

We only collect location data when you're actively using Taystify and have granted permission.

Foreground collection:

  • When you open the app and browse nearby content
  • When you create a post and tag a restaurant
  • When you search for restaurants or food spots
  • When you use the map or discovery features

Background collection:

  • Taystify does NOT collect location in the background
  • We only access location when the app is open and active
  • No tracking when the app is closed or minimized
Privacy first
Unlike many apps, Taystify never tracks your location in the background. We respect your privacy and only use location when you're actively using the app.

πŸ—ΊοΈ What We Do With Location Data

Your location data is used to enhance your Taystify experience and is never sold to third parties.

We use location to:

  • Show you restaurants and food spots near you
  • Suggest restaurants to tag when you create posts
  • Display your posts on a personal food map
  • Show you content from your area in your feed
  • Provide location-based search and filtering
  • Improve our restaurant database and recommendations

βš™οΈ Permissions & Controls

You have full control over location permissions. You can grant, deny, or revoke access at any time.

Device settings:

  • iOS: Settings β†’ Taystify β†’ Location β†’ While Using the App
  • Android: Settings β†’ Apps β†’ Taystify β†’ Permissions β†’ Location
  • You can change permissions at any time
  • Denying location won't affect other app features

In-app controls:

  • Choose whether to tag locations on each post
  • Control who can see your location tags (public, followers, private)
  • Remove location tags from existing posts anytime
  • Turn off nearby content suggestions in settings

πŸ’Ύ Accuracy, Storage & Retention

We store location data responsibly and only keep what's necessary for the features you use.

Accuracy:

  • We use approximate location (city/neighborhood level) for discovery
  • Precise location is only used when tagging specific restaurants
  • We don't store your exact GPS coordinates
  • Location is rounded to the nearest restaurant or area

Storage & retention:

  • Location tags on posts are stored as long as the post exists
  • Temporary location data (for discovery) is not permanently stored
  • You can delete posts with location tags at any time
  • Deleting your account removes all location data

πŸ‘₯ Sharing & Visibility

You control what location information is visible to others on Taystify.

What others can see:

  • Restaurant names and locations you tag on public posts
  • City or neighborhood (not exact address) on your profile
  • Your food map if you choose to make it public
  • Nothing if you don't tag locations or keep posts private
Privacy tip
If you don't want to share your location publicly, you can post without tagging restaurants or set your posts to followers-only or private. Your exact location is never sharedβ€”only the restaurants you choose to tag.

πŸ”— Third Parties

We use trusted third-party services to provide location features, but we never sell your location data.

Services we use:

  • Map providers (e.g., Google Maps, Apple Maps) for displaying locations
  • Restaurant databases for accurate venue information
  • These services have their own privacy policies
  • We share only the minimum data needed for functionality

πŸ”§ Troubleshooting
